What is the best way to protect a pc from viruses or any other harmful intruders?

I have had 2 computers totally die beyond repair from viruses. I want to purchase another computer but am concerned I will waste my money because of getting another virus.

Also, how can I know if I am opening a safe website or using virus free images??? HELP PLEASE!!!

Siteadvisor is a must but i suggest you pay for internet security my reccomendations are Norton, Mcaffe, Bullguard and AVG.

Antivirus software, some type of malware/spyware destroying software, and protect your online identity so that it is harder to hack you or phish you.
To avoid problems:

Keep your Windows fully patched and all your software and updated by going to Windows Updates at least once a month, or set up your comp for automatic updates.

Don't use Limewire or any other P2P file sharing programs. Much of the ''stuff'' you can steal with it are filled with viruses, spyware, trojans and worms.

Never open any e-mail if you don't know the sender. Spam e-mail is a major virus infection vector.
